Calendar Sep 30, 2026 at 6 pm

Flip a switch and the entire world becomes the world of your imagination. Bring painting materials along for the journey and you are on your way to developing and refining a truly unique body of work.

This dynamic painting class invites students to “flip the switch” and explore authentic expression by responding intuitively to visual stimuli with a variety of media. Students will learn to see with curiosity, whether seeking purely abstract or more representational outcomes.

Rather than focusing on traditional rendering techniques, this course emphasizes process, experimentation, and the merging of the imagination with the visual world around us. Students will build a personalized “mark-making toolbox” through exercises in line, rhythm, pressure, scumbling, material exploration and more. Over time, they will learn how to trust their instincts, develop visual sensitivity, and cultivate a uniquely personal, embodied creative practice with endless, increasingly meaningful, possibilities.

Open to all levels. Skills for success include curiosity and a willingness to explore.

This is a mixed media class: oil, acrylic, wax pencils, oil sticks, pastels, charcoal are some of the possibilities. Painting on paper is encouraged as an affordable way to experiment. Canvas and panel is perfectly acceptable also.
